Square's item details export concatenates modifier names into the Variation Name column with inconsistent delimiters — sometimes a comma, sometimes a pipe character. The validator flagged 85 rows where the modifier formatting would have broken our cost-of-goods calculation in QuickBooks.
We had an item details CSV where the Qty column contained decimal values for items sold by weight, but our inventory system expects integers for count-based items. The validator caught 43 rows mixing weight-based and count-based quantities so we could split them before the import.
Square's tip allocation spreads across item detail rows in ways that throw off per-item Net Sales calculations. The validator identified 31 rows where Gross Sales minus Discounts didn't equal Net Sales because tips were embedded in the totals, letting us isolate tip amounts before feeding the data into our margin analysis.
